Vernacular Architecture: Churches and Chapels

4th July, 2017
Weald & Downland Open Air Museum, West Sussex

Although churches are usually thought to embody the highest architectural endeavour, there is another tradition of the simple village church and the deliberately plain chapel which owes much to the vernacular. This day school will explore these themes, from Anglo-Saxon times to the 20th century, focussing on British examples but in an international context.
