Glasgow’s Britannia Panopticon and West Boathouse

2nd December, 2017
Meet at McLennan Arch, Saltmarket entrance to Glasgow Green

A SPAB Scotland visit to the Britannia Panopticon Music Hall, the West Boathouse and Glasgow’s Christmas Market. Built in 1857, the Britannia Panopticon 'is an exceptionally rare survival of a music hall and ... the earliest and sole surviving example of its type in Scotland' according to the listing description. The West Boathouse, in Glasgow Green, dates from 1905 and is now Category B listed. It is 'by far the largest' of this 'rare building type in Scotland'. For both buildings, conservation works are under preparation and those attending will learn more from the professionals involved.
